LSU head coach Kim Mulkey congratulated her soon-to-be former star Angel Reese in an Instagram post following the forward’s announcement that she would turn professional.
Reese made the highly anticipated announcement in an interview with Vogue.com on Wednesday, ending the uncertainty surrounding his future at LSU.
Mulkey posted a photo collage of her with Reese with a caption praising a number of her accomplishments.
“National champion,” Mulkey wrote with a green checkered emoji.
“Graduating soon from @LSU,” she also wrote. “Inspired countless people, young and old. »
Mulkey finished the message: “Keep growing the game @angelreese10.”
The LSU coach shared a post from the LSU women’s basketball Instagram account, thanking Reese for her time with the program.
Mulkey also reposted an LSU highlight reel from Reese.
She’s now part of one of the most exciting WNBA draft classes in recent memory, with two of the biggest stars — Reese and Caitlin Clark — in women’s college hoops set to turn pro.
“I did everything I wanted to do in college,” Reese told Vogue in the interview published in mid-March. “I won a national championship, I was named (Southeastern Conference) Player of the Year (in the 2023-24 season), I was an All-American.
“My ultimate goal is to be a pro – and to be one of the greatest basketball players of all time. I feel like I’m ready.
The news came 48 hours after Clark and Iowa eliminated LSU Monday night at MVP Arena in Albany in the Elite Eight — a game that set a viewership record for women’s college sports.
Reese helped LSU win a national championship in 2023, and last season she averaged 18.6 points and 13.4 rebounds per game.
She also had a double-double in 27 of the 33 games she played in her final season at LSU.
