“The attack on the Kharkiv TV tower is part of a systematic and large-scale campaign by Russia against the civilian population of Ukraine,” said Oksana Romaniuk, director of the Institute of Mass Information, a think tank based in kyiv.
“The destruction of the television tower constitutes a war crime, both under Ukrainian law and international humanitarian law.”
“Civilian objects, such as television towers, enjoy absolute protection and cannot be a legitimate target in armed conflict. We demand a thorough investigation and an appropriate response from the international community,” she added.
The year saw a marked increase in Russian attacks on Ukrainian television and radio infrastructure, according to the Mass Information Institute, with structures targeted in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions in March.
