In the midst of Cleveland’s tumultuous 2024 season, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski announced he was giving up the offensive playmaking, handing it over to former offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey.
But now Stefanski is taking it back.
Just before the introductory press conference for new offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, Stefanski announced he would return to the role – which he has held since becoming Browns head coach in 2020.
“I’ll call for parts and I reserve the right to change my mind,” Stefanski said, via ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi.
As for hiring Rees, Stefanski said he admired the 32-year-old coach from afar before hiring him to the team in 2024 as a passing game specialist and tight ends coach.
“Really, that last year with Tommy solidified what I thought about him,” Stefanski said. “We had a process with some really impressive candidates for this position – smart people who we really enjoyed getting to know. But, ultimately, I felt like Tommy was the right fit for this football team.
Stefanski added that it appears Rees already has a solid grasp of the work in the meetings the team has had since his promotion.
Cleveland has a lot to do offensively in 2025, but quarterback will likely be the team’s priority going into the offseason.
