Kevin Durant expected to start for Team USA in gold medal game against France

It looks like Steve Kerr will have to adjust his rotations ahead of Saturday’s men’s basketball final against France. Team USA is back in the finals for the 2024 Olympics, looking for its fifth consecutive gold medal at the Games.

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the starter for Saturday’s game will be none other than Kevin Durant, the American’s all-time leading scorer at the Olympics. Durant didn’t start at this year’s Games in Paris, but his contributions as a backup were crucial.

Some have criticized Durant’s lack of usage in Kerr’s rotations, including some telling remarks from Draymond Green on social media, and he now appears poised to join LeBron James and company in the starting five.

Charania reports that Jrue Holiday will be on the bench for the Americans. The Boston Celtics point guard was a frequent member of the starting lineup throughout the gold medal run, providing quality defense on the perimeter.

Team USA struggled to hold on in the semifinals, thanks to a 36-point game from Stephen Curry and a late comeback to upset Nikola Jokic’s Serbia. As a substitute, Durant contributed nine points, three rebounds and one assist in 24 minutes. It was clear that adjustments were needed for the team, and now Durant will work his way into the starting five to help provide the spark.
