Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne could soon join Lionel Messi in Inter Miami. According to reports, the club based in Florida has acquired the discovery rights of De Bruyne, which would give them the first right to negotiate with him if he chose the major football (MLS) as his next destination.
While I Interd Miami refused to comment officially, the news sent a buzz to the world of football, fans already dreaming of a Messi-de Bruyne Link-up in MLS.
What are the discovery rights?
In MLS, each team can list up to five players on their discovery list, giving them the first exclusive option to negotiate with these players if they wish to join the League. De Bruyne’s rights were initially held by San Diego FC, but they removed it from their list earlier this year.
De Bruyne will join Inter Miami?
Bringing from Bruyne to Miami would be a massive decision for the club, but there can be financial problems. The Belgian star currently earns around $ 25 million a year in Manchester City, a figure that would even exceed Messi’s MLS wages of $ 20 million.
If De Bruyne was to join Inter Miami, he would most likely be named an designated player (DP) because his salary would exceed the maximum ceiling of $ 740,000. Each team is authorized to appoint three DPS and the difference between the maximum ceiling and the actual wages of the player is covered by the club. The current DPs of Inter Miami are Messi, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.
A pair of dreaming dreams
De Bruyne would have considered the next stage of his illustrious career after a decade of domination in Manchester City. Although he has not excluded to stay in the Premier League or move to the Saudi Pro League, the idea of playing with Messi could prove irresistible.
De Bruyne and Messi have never played the club or internationally together. They clashed several times in the UEFA Champions League but have never been teammates. If De Bruyne joins Inter Miami, it will be the first time that the two superstars will share the locker room.
