Manchester, England (AP) – Kevin de Bruyne announced that he would leave Manchester City – ending a decade in charge of trophy with the club.
The 33 -year -old Belgian playmaker is without contract this summer and in an emotional article on his social networks on Friday confirmed that he was in his “last months” with the champion of the Premier League.
“Nothing about this is easy to write, but as a football players, we all know that this day comes finally. This day is there,” he wrote.
De Bruyne will be one of the greats of all time in the Premier League after helping City to win 16 major trophies for an unprecedented period of domination.
Since he joined Wolfsburg for around $ 71 million in 2015, he won each great club honor, including the Champions League.
“This city. This club. These people … gave me everything. I had no choice but to return everything! And guess what-we won everything,” he wrote. “Whether we like it or not, it’s time to say goodbye.”
Municipal director Pep Guardiola described it as a “sad day” after the announcement of De Bruyne.
“In the Premier League, he is one of the greatest fields of field to play in this country and I think that in this club (there), it is undoubtedly,” said Guardiola. “His aid, his objectives, his vision in the last third, which is so difficult to replace.”
With 118 assists in the League, by Bruyne is second behind Manchester United Great Ryan Giggs, which provided 162, on the list of all time.
He reached this total in 280 appearances, against 632 for Giggs. He played 413 games for City in all competitions, scored 106 goals and was twice appointed player of the year PFA in England.
While De Bruyne will be one of the best players to play for City, he could rather have spent most of his career in Chelsea after joining the club of the Belgian team Genk in 2012. But he became frustrated after only two league departures and finally moved to Wolfsburg in Germany in 2014.
There he revitalized his career and convinced City to make him the record signature of the club.
De Bruyne did not say if he would participate in the club World Cup, which takes place in June and July in the United States.
“He must decide, this is a new competition. I hope he will be able to continue playing football in another place, but it depends on the risks and contracts for the future,” said Guardiola. “I don’t know. The club must speak to him, and he must say what he wants to do. ” ___ James Robson is at https://twitter.com/jamesalanrobson ___ Soccer AP: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer
