Kevin De Bruyne close on Manchester United legend’s Premier League assists record after equaling Cesc Fabregas

Only Ryan Giggs now stands behind Kevin De Bruyne in terms of the most assists in Premier League history.

The Manchester City midfielder delivered his 111th assist in the English top flight in the 4-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday lunchtime.

Pep Guardiola’s side took the lead at Craven Cottage through Josko Gvardiol in the 13th minute after playing a delightful one-two with De Bruyne.

The Belgian international’s exquisite pass saw the versatile defender charge into the box, where he placed his shot into the bottom left corner.

De Bruyne’s latest assist is his tenth Premier League assist of the campaign.

An impressive figure considering he only returned to action in January after suffering an injury on the first day of the campaign.

The former Chelsea player is now tied with Cesc Fabregas on 111 assists.

Incredibly, De Bruyne reached the total in 92 fewer games than the former Arsenal captain.

All but one of De Bruyne’s assists came while he was at City, with his first Premier League assist coming during his time at Chelsea during the 2013/14 season.

De Bruyne will surely now have his eyes on overtaking Manchester United legend Giggs, although he still has a way to go.

Former Red Devils striker Giggs has racked up 162 assists for the Old Trafford side.

The Welshman enjoyed a long playing career at United, where he played 22 seasons in the Premier League.

De Bruyne could have had assist number 112 towards the end of the first half, but Manuel Akanji failed to direct his point-blank volley onto the target.

Fortunately for the defender, his miss had no impact on the match as City scored three times in the second half in west London.

Foden scored his 25th of the season in all competitions, before Gvardiol scored his second of the match.

And Julian Alvarez then got on the scoresheet after scoring a penalty deep into added time.

The result takes City back to the top of the table above Arsenal as they move closer to a fourth consecutive Premier League title.
