Kermit the Frog has once sung “it’s not easy to be green” – and now it can see how easy it is to transmit wise words to obtain collegial diplomas in these times.
The University announced this week that it had chosen the star of the fictitious mupes and what is called “the most famous amphibian in the world” to deliver her speech at the start on May 21 at the SECU stadium from the University of Maryland to College Park.
The selection of Kermit for the role occurred a year after other American universities were faced with demonstrations against early speakers – or completely canceled speeches – about Israel military strikes in Gaza.
This also occurs when Donald Trump’s presidential administration has put pressure on American universities to reform their admission policies and repress Pro -Palestinian demonstrations – or risks in risks as well as the loss of millions of dollars in federal money.
The announcement of Maryland avoided saying if it took into account such factors before typing a childhood idol as a starter at the start.
“Nothing could make these feet happier than to speak to the University of Maryland,” said a statement attributed to Kermit and Muppets Studio. “I just know that the 2025 class will jump into the world and make it a better place, so if a few encouraging words from a frog can help, then I will be there!”
A promotional video published by Maryland praised Kermit as a winner of the Peabody Award, successful author, environmental defender – and “friend to all creatures”.
The video also alluded to the way the late Jim Henson, who created the winning mupes of the Emmy, proposed Kermit when he was a student in Maryland.
Henson graduated from the university in 1960 as a major in domestic economics, and he was commemorated on campus with a sculpture the representative seated next to Kermit.
“I am delighted that our graduates and their families experience the optimism and insight of the world renown Kermit The frog at such a significant time of their lives,” said a statement attributed to the president of Maryland, Darryll J Pines. “Our pride for Jim Henson does not know any limits, and it is an honor to welcome Kermit the frog on our campus.”
The Muppets Studio said that the plan was that Kermit’s puppeteer since 2017, Matt Vogel, to express and execute the character.
At least a senior graduate from Maryland described Kermit’s address.
The theater student, Adam Hawley, told the network: “It is not often that a … Frog speaks to your diploma. Although it is a frog and a puppet, it is remarkable how relatable and human Kermit is.
“He makes mistakes like us, but what is really special is how he learns from his experiences and shares with us a deep wisdom about how to be nice to ourselves and treat ourselves with care.”
Kermit is not a recruit of language. He spoke to the promotion of the former Southampton College of the University of Long Island in 1996 and accepted an honorary doctorate in amphibious letters of the institution.
“I am sure that when you were children who grew up in your own special swamps or suburbs, you never imagined that you are sitting here the most important days of your life to listen to a short green frog talking about delivering your start address,” said Kermit at the time, according to a statement of notes. “We should all feel very proud of us … and a little silly.”
He wished the graduates “Ribbit-Knee-deep-Ribbit”, who, according to him, translated: “Let success and a smile be always for you … Even when you are at the bottom of the sticky mud of life.”
“You are no longer tadpoles,” Kermit said in conclusion. “The time has come for you to drop your tail and leave this swamp.
“But I’m sure where I go while I travel around the world, I will find each of you who work your tail to save other swamps and give those of us who live a chance to survive. We love you for that. Enjoy life! And thank you very much.
