Police arrived at the scene after receiving calls about an active shooter. Shots were still being fired when they arrived. At least four people were found dead at the scene and many others were injured.

Garvey then fled in a car, sparking a chase with police. He then shot himself in the head and his car fell into a ditch on Dale Heimbrock Way near Hicks Pike. Officers found him with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“This is the first time there has been a mass shooting in Florence”

The four people who died were identified as Delaney Eary, 19, Hayden Rybicki, 20, Melissa Parrett, 44, and Shane Miller, 20. The party was held at Parrett’s home for her 21-year-old child. Mallery said Garvey knew the people celebrating the party, but was not invited to the party. The motive for the crime remains unknown.

“We’ve never been in a situation like this before and now it’s happening all over the country, but this is the first time we’ve had a mass shooting in Florence, so yes, it’s very emotional,” Mallery said.

“We are training for this, hoping that it never happens, but unfortunately we have been affected like so many departments and cities,” he added.

The three injured victims were transported to a local hospital. Their condition is now critical but stable and they are expected to make a full recovery.
