The Kentucky Derby lost a horse trained in Bob Baffert for the race on Saturday.
Rodriguez, who opened at 12-1, will not participate after his team decided to remove it from the prestigious derby.
Tom Ryan, a managing partner of one of the many companies that owns Rodriguez, wrote in a statement on Thursday that Rodriguez had been scratched from competition due to a bruise. Ryan said that this decision had been made “by abundance of prudence” and that the team would aim to prepare Rodriguez for the preakness issues later this month.
Rodriguez was one of the two horses on the ground formed by the decorated and controversial spray, which returns to the derby after having a three -year suspension. In 2021, the slack horse, Medina Spirit, was tested positive for a steroid prohibited after winning the derby and was stripped of the victory.
