In the middle of the regime change led by Trump of Kennedy Center, the activities of the month of pride seem a little different this year.
Part of the WorldPride 2025 Festival in Washington DC, the tapestry of pride events of the center which was scheduled from June 5 to 8 was quietly canceled or moved to other sites, according to the Associated Press.
Always listed on the Kennedy Center website, the event is described as “a celebration of diversity and unity, weaving performance, exhibitions and experiences for all ages”.
The deadline contacted the center to comment.
June Crenshaw, deputy director of the Capital Pride Alliance of DC, said at the AP: “We are a resilient community, and we have found other avenues to celebrate. We find another path to celebration … but the fact that we must maneuver in this way is disappointing. ”
Donald Trump visited the Kennedy Center last month, following his appointment as a new president of the center after having ousted half of the members of the organization’s board of directors, who were appointed by Joe Biden.
Since Trump took over, Shonda Rhimes resigned from the Kennedy Center board of directors, and Issa Rae canceled a spectacle planned for the place. Meanwhile, Trump faced the reaction of supporters of the canceled children’s musical from the Kennedy Center FinnishThe male gay choir of DC and the international orchestra of pride on abandoned performance.
Trump previously threatened to make the Kennedy Center “again big”, announcing his plan in February to suppress those “who do not share our vision of a golden age in arts and culture”.
“We will soon announce a new board of directors, with an incredible president, Donald J. Trump!” He added. “Last year, the Kennedy Center presented drags spectacles specifically targeting our young people – it will stop. The Kennedy Center is an American jewel, and must reflect the brightest stars on its scene from all over our country. For the Kennedy Center, the best remains to come!”
