Houston’s head coach Kelvin Sampson is generally very respectful of other teams.
Recall that he even scolded a journalist last month for having missed “Gonzaga”.
But in a brief interview at the start of the championship match on Monday evening against Florida, Sampson ransacked another team.
Sasquatch state.
This college does not exist, of course. (If that was the case, it would probably be in the northwest of the Pacific, perhaps a PAC-12 team at one point before fleeing a conference with better television money.)
CBS journalist, Tracy Wolfson, spoke to Sampson during a waiting period halfway through the first half. She pointed out that the cougars had not yet struck a three -point shot.
“I don’t think they have yet made a three either, we didn’t do three,” said Sampson. “It’s nervous. It’s the league evening. It is not mid-January against the state of Sasquatch. It is the national championship, there will be nerves. The two teams will settle down.”
“What a conference is Sasquatch State in,” asked Ian Eagle, Play-By-Play advertiser, a few seconds later.
“I had 5 and 0 against the state of Sasquatch,” joked Bill Rafrity, color analyst. “We won three in overtime, it was a difficult road trip, I will tell you.”

“They were your cupcake when you were in Seton Hall,” joked Eagle.
The reference “Sasquatch State” recalled Sampson’s comments after Houston’s victory against Duke on Saturday. He praised the Big 12 and said: “We were not 34-4 playing in the Toy Poodle League.”
Sampson can be a little aggravated by the media and certain questions; Earlier this year, he fell against a journalist asking him to comment on the officer after being ejected.
“I have no thought,” said Sampson. “So, if I say something and answer your question, they indicated $ 25,000. What part of $ 25,000 are you ready to pay? So, don’t ask me silly questions because it’s a fine of $ 25,000 if I tell the truth. I can’t ask me.”
So maybe as a defense mechanism against saying something he should not say, Sampson retains a list of invented terms (Sasquatch State, Toy Poodle Conference) that he can launch without thinking, while focusing on more important questions – as trying to win a national championship.
Unsurprisingly, the Sampson’s comment on Monday evening aroused many “Sasquatch State” jokes on social networks.
