The saints officially entered the post-derek carr era on Saturday. The next starter will be determined by the competition.
The candidates are the Tyler Shough recruit and the held Jake Haener and Spencer Rattle.
Meeting journalists on Saturday, coach Kellen Moore was asked if he considered Shough as a starting quarter.
“”We will let these three guys roll“Said coach Kellen Moore on Saturday,” and they all won these opportunities. We are going to leave Jake, Spencer and Tyler – the three outings go through this process. »»
Moore expressed his confidence that, one of the pre-season begins, “one of these guys will get up” at the starting work.
A key factor, as Moore explained, will be the way they operate the offensive and communicate with other players.
“The quarterrier has no choice, it is a leadership role,” said Moore. “And there is no real way to get around this. And so it’s really, really important to see their guys appropriate and go there.
For now, Shough has had the chance to show what he can do during a mini recruit. Moore said Shough did an “excellent” work in his first NFL taste, which consisted of a pair of seven sessions against seven which were “somewhat competitive”. On Monday, Shough and the other recruits will join veterans in the current intersane program.
Moore said on the possibility of adding a veteran quarterrier that they will have a “awareness”, and that they will be ready to add another quarter-arre if the opportunity arises.
A choice of fourth round in 2023, Haener appeared in eight games with a departure in 2024. He finished 18 of the 39 passes for 226 yards with a pass of a touchdown and an interception. Rattler was a fifth round choice in 2024. As a recruit, it appeared in seven games with six departures. He completed 130 of the 228 assists for 1,317 yards, four Touché passes and five interceptions.
Shough arrives as 40th choice at the 2025 draft. And Moore witnessed the ability of a recruit to become a viable starter immediately; Moore was on the depth board in Dallas nine years ago, when Dak Prescott arrived as a fourth round recovery choice, took the opportunity to play right away due to Tony Romo’s back injury and never looked back.
