Keanu Reeves Remembers ‘Something’s Got to Give’ Co-Star Diane Keaton

At the premiere of his new film Chance tonight, Keanu Reeves remembered his Something has to give his co-star Diane Keaton, who died last week, as a “total pro.”

Reaves said E! News on the red carpet, “She was very kind to me. Generous artist and very special and unique person.”

He continued, “It was cool to be able to see her and Jack Nicholson together. Just with the history that they shared and the way that they had the affection and the love that they had for each other. It was really cool.”

Reeves was 36 and Keaton was 57 when the film was released in 2003. Although she and Reeves had real on-screen chemistry, her character eventually ended up with Jack Nicholson’s more age-appropriate Harry.

Fans have long speculated about an alternate ending where Keaton’s character would choose Reaves’. In fact, when the duo showed up at the 2020 Oscars, the chemistry was still there. Meyers herself later posted: “Whoa. Maybe they ended up together.”

The director recalled Keaton’s performance in the film earlier in the day.

“When I needed her to cry scene after scene in Something has to give she went hard at it and then somehow made it funny,” Meyers wrote. “And I remember her sometimes spinning in some kind of goofy circle before a take to intentionally throw herself off balance or whatever she needed to get her mind off the present moment. She wasn’t afraid of anything, she wasn’t like anyone, she was born to be a movie star.
