Katy Perry’s Original Lyrics to ‘Teenage Dream’ Will Blow Your Mind

Katy Perry‘steam At first it was hot and cold about “Teenage Dream.”

Bonnie McKeewho co-wrote the 2010 hit with the singer, revealed that the track underwent several different lyrical interpretations before landing on the chorus known today.

“It was the hardest to write,” Bonnie explained during an episode of The daddy mommy show podcast. “We wrote five different versions of it.”

The songwriter, credited on the track alongside Katy, Max Martin and producers Benny Blanco And Dr. Luke– remembered the first version of the hook beginning with the lines: “You make me feel like I’m born again / Brand new, come on, Peter Pan.”

Of course, this concept did not hold up. In fact, after deciding that those lyrics were “too young” and “needed to be sexier,” they went back to the drawing board and worked on a few more ideas, including one called “Try Me On.”

“It was all kinds of fashion references,” Bonnie said. “Even though it’s a really cute idea and worth writing about, it was a little camp, and the song was a little more serious.”
