Katy Perry Suffers Wardrobe Malfunction When Top Breaks During Live Taping Of ‘American Idol’: “It’s A Family Show”

Katy Perry bared almost everything during Monday night’s (April 15) live taping of American Idol. The pop star, who has judged the hit singing competition since 2018, suffered a wardrobe malfunction when her top burst mid-stream.

Perry was applauding contestant Roman Collins, who just performed James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World,” when his custom Kate Barton top came undone.

“I need my top to stay on,” she said in a extract from behind the scenes she then shared on her social media accounts. “If this isn’t fixed, this show will get more than it wanted.”

The star’s co-judge Luke Bryan then tried to move things along, grabbing a set of pliers to help reattach Perry’s top. But after taking one look at the fiasco, he quickly backed down and opted to leave it to the professionals.

When the show returned from commercial break, Perry hid under her desk and covered her chest with a pillow, prompting Bryan to yell, “Notes.” And here are the notes,” and Lionel Richie added: “I love the notes! »

Perry then joked, “That song broke my top.” I guess it’s a woman’s world! …It’s a family show.

The judges caught up Entertainment tonight after the taping, where Richie blamed the snafu on Bryan.

“Luke brought the roof down, I’ll tell you the whole truth,” he said. “And then Luke spent the rest of the time saying, ‘I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry.’ But he really apologized and then he tried to put it all back together and it seemed worse than all that.

Fortunately, there were no hard feelings. Perry described the accident as “a moment for television.”

“Yeah, he always tricks me,” she joked about the country singer. “It wasn’t really a malfunction. It was just a moment for television. Every season I feel like I’m ripping my pants…I think it’s the physical comedy, the physical expression side of me that just wants to burst out.

Fans will have to soak up all the hilarious moments while they can, since Perry revealed earlier this year that this would be her last season to judge. American Idol.

“I like Idol such. It connected me to the heart of America, but I feel like I need to get out and feel that pulse on my own time,” she said in a February episode. Jimmy Kimmel Live. “I love the show so much but I want to go see the world and maybe bring some new music.”

American idol airs Sunday and Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
