Katy Perry sheds tears as she says goodbye to ‘American Idol’ after seven seasons

Katy Perry took the American idol showing up one last time as a judge before saying goodbye to the ABC reality competition.

The singer, alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, walked hand-in-hand into the season 22 finale. Perry was already visibly emotional when she saw Ryan Seacrest, knowing it would be her last appearance on the show.

During the three-hour finale, Perry took the stage with third-place runner-up Jack Blocker and they performed “What Makes a Woman.”

Throughout the evening, the mere mention that this was Perry’s last concert brought tears to the singer’s eyes.

The ladies of the Top 12 took the stage to perform a medley of Perry’s hits in honor of her latest show. “Teenage Dream,” “Dark Horse,” and “California Gurls” are the songs performed by the girls.

Perry didn’t address viewers on her last day as a judge American idol. After announcing the winner of season 22, Abi Carter performed “What Was I Made For?” » which made Perry shed a few tears.

As the confetti and credits rolled, Richie was seen giving an emotional Perry a hug, and Bryan joined him afterward.

Perry, Bryan and Richie joined American Idol in 2018 when ABC revived the singing competition after fifteen seasons on Fox. Since season 16, the jury has remained unchanged until Perry’s departure. ABC has not announced who will take Perry’s place when the series returns for season 23.

Before the finale, Perry already expected her to cry because of everything that happened.

“I think I would cry about anything,” Perry said in an interview published by KABC. “It’s been a beautiful journey and I love seeing these kids grow into this big, beautiful patchwork quilt.”
