Kathy Griffin and Randy Bick split up.
The comedian filed for divorce from the marketing exec on Thursday, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. The documents list the couple’s separation date as December 22 and cite “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the end of their marriage. Griffin’s filing also says the two signed a prenuptial agreement that dictates how their assets should be divided.
The split comes just days before what would have been their fourth wedding anniversary. Griffin and Bick tied the knot in a surprise ceremony on New Year’s Day in 2020, after dating for nearly a decade.
Griffin appeared to acknowledge the breakup on social media on Friday, releasing a statement that simply said, “Well, sh*t… that sucks.”
The news of the split was perhaps as surprising as the marriage itself, as Griffin sang Bick’s praises on a recent episode of Nicole Byer’s show. Why don’t you want to go out with me? podcast. “My husband is a champion,” she said. “What brought me out of suicidal thoughts was when the doctor said to me, ‘The effects this has on your survivors are so horrible.’ That’s what pushed me out of it, was the idea that it’s a horrible thing to do to someone – to be their surviving spouse or friend.”
“He’s been great,” Griffin continued. “I realized I asked a lot of him and he was on my side. But I feel like it’s a big problem in relationships. For better or worse. It happens really. Sometimes it gets really bad.”
Although Griffin admitted there had been normal marital conflicts. “We argue sometimes,” she said, “and it’s often difficult to be together.”
