Katharine McPhee’s husband David Foster slammed for calling her ‘fat’ in resurfaced video

Katharine McPhee’s fans are defending her after a clip of her husband calling her “fat” resurfaced online.

The original clip was posted to TikTok in March 2023 and was recorded during one of their joint concerts. In the clip, McPhee and her husband, David Foster, tell the audience how they met.

She opened the conversation by reminding the crowd that they met in 2006, “when[she]was a chubby, happy little contestant on ‘American Idol.'” McPhee competed on Season 5 of the competition show, placing second, and Foster appeared as a guest mentor during the season.

” Oh yes. You were fat,” Foster quickly agreed. McPhee was surprised by his response and replied, “I was a little fat, OK?” I was just young. »

DAVID FOSTER AND KATHERINE MCPHEE HAVE A MARRIAGE WITHOUT ‘HARD AND FAST RULES’

In the new clip posted by a TikTok user, the social media user explained that it was possible that Foster “was being sarcastic” when he called her fat. However, the user noted that Foster “was okay when she said she was chubby,” noting that that wasn’t acceptable either. The social media user added that rather than Foster agreeing with her “when she said that about herself,” Foster “could have said literally anything else, and It would have been better.”

People in the comments section seemed to agree with the TikTok user.

“This hurt my heart,” one wrote. “This beautiful girl has NEVER been fat. We don’t say that his wife is fat. As a joke or seriously. »

“OMG I can’t believe he said that???,” wrote another user, while a third replied: “Oh my god. The way my jaw dropped.”

The “Smash” star has spoken openly about her weight issues in the past, revealing that she previously struggled with eating disorders, including bulimia.

After the birth of her son in March 2021, the singer told “Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy Podcast” that her body image became a major issue and “suddenly showed up in a way that hadn’t been there in a long time.” “.

“But to feel like there was a relapse after I got pregnant was really shocking and upsetting and worrying for me because I was suddenly so obsessed with food, starting in that first trimester, and I had such a distortion of my appearance,” McPhee explained.

After speaking with a psychiatrist, she learned that it’s “very common for women who have suffered from eating disorders in the past to almost relapse” in one way or another during pregnancy.

“And it made me feel so much better to not be alone in this headspace… just meeting him and talking to me about it,” McPhee said. “It’s not like he handed me a bottle of pills and said, ‘Here are your anxiety pills.’ That’s not what he did when he met me, but he was just talking about it and asking questions.”
