Kate Middleton posts Prince Louis birthday portrait after Photoshop controversy – The Mercury News
Kate Middleton and Prince William share a birthday portrait that the Princess of Wales took of their youngest child, Prince Louis, in honor of his sixth birthday – just over a month after the royal snafu of Photoshop.
The Prince and Princess of Wales released the portrait on Tuesday. In it, Louis smiles at the camera as he lies down on a picnic blanket.
“Happy 6th birthday, Prince Louis! Thanks for all the well wishes today,” the couple captioned the photo, adding that Kate, 42, took it.
The photo comes just weeks after Kate was slammed for a photoshopped image of her with Louis, Princess Charlotte and Prince George. The photo was posted in honor of Mother’s Day, which is celebrated in March in the United Kingdom.
“Like many amateur photographers, I occasionally experiment with retouching,” Kate said after the image was picked up by several media outlets for manipulation. “I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion caused by the family photo we shared yesterday. I hope everyone celebrating this holiday had a very happy Mother’s Day.
The photo was taken amid weeks of conspiracy theories about Kate’s well-being, after she underwent abdominal surgery in mid-January and Kensington Palace said she would likely be out of commission until after Easter.
Once the photo – the first official image of Kate after her surgery – was determined to be manipulated, concern that all was not as it seemed with the princess reached a fever pitch. This speculation was only exacerbated by the fact that Buckingham Palace was content to release updates on the health of King Charles, who had been hospitalized along with his daughter-in-law and who was subsequently diagnosed with cancer.
Kate addressed the public in a video late last month, revealing that doctors found cancer after surgery and that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy, according to their advice.
