Prince William has said his wife Catherine is “doing well” following her cancer diagnosis.

He was told about a new health and social services facility being built on Duchy land, near the hospital.

The prince said his children, George, Charlotte and Louis, were “very jealous” of his trip and that he might bring them to Cornwall later in the year.

He received a letter from matron Lynda McHale, written by her granddaughter, who wished the Princess of Wales and the King well in their respective recovery from cancer.

The trip marks William’s first official visit to the Isles of Scilly since becoming Duke of Cornwall, a title he holds in addition to his title as Prince of Wales.

Prince William met with staff at Hugh Town Hospital to hear about plans to expand a new integrated health and social care facility.

He was told the facility would improve the range of care provided while ensuring people could be treated as close to home as possible, rather than having to travel to the mainland.

The new building is expected to open next summer.

Tracy Smith, trustee of St Mary’s, arranged for the prince to visit the medical centre.

Mrs Smith said: ‘I asked William about his wife Kate and he said: ‘She’s fine, thank you,’ and I suggested they might like to come and visit and bring the children .”

The Princess of Wales called on her family to be given time, space and privacy when she announced her diagnosis with an undisclosed form of cancer on March 22. She said she had started chemotherapy.

During his visit on Friday, William received a card for his father the King – also suffering from cancer – and Catherine from matron Lynda McHale, who said it was from her granddaughter “who wanted wishing his father and his wife get well soon. “.

As heir to the throne, William is Duke of Cornwall and receives income from the Duchy of Cornwall, a portfolio of land, property and investments which owns much of the Isles of Scilly and almost a third of the residential buildings .

During his visit Friday, he used a shovel to dig up dirt at the site of what will be the new facility.

The royal itinerary included a visit to St Mary’s Harbour, which is run by the duchy and handles everything from excursion boats to fishing boats and cargo ships.

There he met a concert boat team who finished third at the Concert Pilot World Championships, held in Scilly last weekend.

William went to the On The Quay cafe and ordered five pasties before pointing out: “They’re not all for me… but it smells delicious in here.”

“I was saying to others, I can’t believe the islands today when it’s weather like this – it’s just beautiful,” he said.

“I went into the sea yesterday, which was good. I wore a wetsuit.”

After leaving the cafe, William chatted with the tourists who were waiting for boats to take them to different islands.

“I said to the team, ‘Should we leave today?’ Can’t we stay a little longer? “” he told them.

When one woman responded that “you can do whatever you want”, she replied: “I would like to, my family is very upset, I am here without them, my children will kill me if I don’t come back.”

Prince William’s trip to Cornwall comes as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex begin a three-day visit to Nigeria.
