With her sensational murder case still dominating headlines as it nears its second trial, Karen Read is set to appear on a new ABC “20/20” special airing Friday.

The news program released a trailer on social media Tuesday, promising “an exclusive, one-on-one personal video with Karen Read one week before her trial.” Some of the footage in the trailer appears to be from an interview Read gave to ABC’s “Nightline” last year, months before her trial.

Read, 44, is accused of deliberately and drunkenly reversing her SUV into Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe — her boyfriend of two years — and leaving him to die in the snow outside a Canton home in January 2022. Prosecutors allege that Read’s deteriorating relationship with O’Keefe may have driven her to kill; they specifically pointed to flirtatious text messages she exchanged with another man, as well as angry voicemails she left O’Keefe the morning of his death, calling him a “fucking perv” and telling him she hated him.

“Would you say you were angry with John that night?” ABC News’ Matt Gutman asks Read in the “20/20” trailer.

“Yes,” Read answers frankly.

But Mansfield’s wife has steadfastly maintained her innocence, and her attorneys have pointed the finger at a group of civilian witnesses and law enforcement who they say conspired to frame Read for O’Keefe’s death.

“You’re claiming they’re trying to cover it up,” Gutman notes in the trailer. “Why would they want to be involved in this conspiracy?”

“Because he’s dead,” Read retorts.

Read’s first trial began in April and ended in a mistrial on July 1 after the jury deadlocked. Prosecutors plan to retry her in January.

The case captured national attention during more than eight weeks of testimony, with crowds gathering outside Norfolk Superior Court in Dedham each day of the trial. The “20/20” trailer includes clips of “Free Karen Read” supporters proclaiming Read’s innocence, as well as counterprotesters chanting “Lock her up” and “Justice for JJ” — O’Keefe’s nickname.

Several of O’Keefe’s friends also make appearances in the trailer, evoking her memory or criticizing Read’s behavior during the trial. Read, meanwhile, is shown preparing for court, touching up her hair and makeup and checking her outfit.

“I’m sure I’m going to do everything I can, including looking professional for court,” she tells the camera. “I just got this suit from the tailor because the sleeves were too long and my mom gets annoyed when people wear sleeves that are too long.”

Read’s “20/20” special will premiere Friday at 9 p.m. ET. It will also be available to stream on Hulu.
