Kapil Sibal elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal has been elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) after securing a significant victory in the elections. Sibal got 1,066 votes, a considerable margin over his nearest competitor, senior advocate Pradeep Rai, who got 689 votes. The incumbent, senior advocate Adish C Aggarwala, managed to secure 296 votes, according to provisional figures. The other contenders in the fray were Priya Hingorani, Tripurari Ray and Neeraj Srivastava.

Having been appointed Senior Advocate in 1983, Sibal’s legal career has been illustrious. He graduated from Harvard Law School and also served as Additional Solicitor General of India from 1989 to 1990.

This is Sibal’s fourth term as SCBA president. He has previously held the position three times, his most recent term being 23 years ago in 2001. He also held the position in 1995-96 and 1997-98.
