Kamala Harris says when people make fun of her laugh, it’s part of Americans adjusting to the first female vice president and implies it’s a form of sexism.

Speaking to actress Drew Barrymore on her daytime talk show, Harris explained how she often sees the audience draw attention to her laughter. Critics even called his laugh a sneer and compiled examples of his laughter in videos mocking the vice president.

“You were asking me earlier what it means to be the first woman (vice president),” Harris told Barrymore during an episode this week. “And you know, it’s funny because people still have to get used to it, right?”

She then claimed that an example of continued misogyny with the public adjusting to having a female vice president is when people pay increased attention to her laugh or mannerisms.

“I mean, my collaborators for example, sometimes they show me little things that amuse me. Apparently some people like to talk about the way I laugh,” Harris said.

Barrymore, who was sitting close to the vice president on the couch, said excitedly, “Oh, yes. All right. I love your laugh.’

Harris has been deemed unlikable and even the Democratic National Committee (DNC) has held focus groups on the vice president to understand why voters dislike her, according to a report released this month.

Some voters in focus groups cited his laugh, and other group members questioned whether President Joe Biden even liked him.

The 59-year-old’s approval rating sits somewhere in the mid-30s — an all-time low for the modern vice presidency as she spent the first three years of her term saddled with bad titles.

“I have my mother’s laugh,” Harris told Barrymore. “And I grew up with a group of women, in particular, who were laughing their heads off. They laughed, they sat around the kitchen and drank their coffee, telling great stories with great laughter.

“You know, I’ll never be like that,” Harris said before pretending to laugh into his hand.

The Democrat continued her story: “I’m just not that person. And I think it’s very important for us to remind each other, as well as our younger ones: don’t limit yourself to other people’s perceptions of what that looks like, and who you should – how you should act to be right.

“It’s really important. It’s important,” she concluded.

Barrymore, known for her empathetic interview style, responded: “I love your laugh and I love this message.”

Underneath a video of the vice president’s interview with Barrymre, one user wrote: “The laughter is embarrassing.” »

“It’s a sneer and it’s only hideous because of what makes you laugh,” wrote another.

Many have pointed out not only the way Harris laughs, but also the fact that she often lets out a chuckle during inappropriate moments.

She has also been criticized for her “word salad”, with many saying her anecdotes and stories often make no logical sense.

Harris, the first-ever female vice president in the United States, joins Biden on the 2024 ticket to serve a second term as vice president.
