Kamala Harris’ $361 million fundraising haul surpasses Donald Trump’s in August

Vice President Kamala Harris nearly tripled former President Donald Trump’s fundraising haul in August, giving her a financial advantage heading into the final months of the campaign.

Harris’ campaign announced Friday that it raised $361 million last month and had $404 million in cash on hand. Trump’s campaign said earlier this week it raised $130 million in August and had $295 million in cash on hand.

“In a short period of time, Vice President Harris’ candidacy has galvanized a historic, broad and diverse coalition with the kind of enthusiasm, energy and courage that wins close elections,” said Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Harris’ campaign manager. “As we enter the final stretch of this election, we are ensuring that every hard-earned dollar is used to engage the voters who will decide this election.”

President Biden’s decision to drop out of the race and endorse Harris after her disastrous debate performance has dramatically upended the race.

Since then, Ms Harris has raised a whopping $615 million, underscoring the enthusiasm her candidacy has generated among Democrats.

His campaign said his August haul was “the best month of grassroots fundraising in presidential history.”

Yet Ms Harris is neck and neck with Mr Trump in key battleground states, adding to the uncertainty of the race.

Ms Harris and Mr Trump are expected to meet on the debate stage in Philadelphia on Tuesday for the first – and perhaps only – time in the race.
