Kadie Price, Michigan Mom Killed While Protecting Daughter From Out-of-Control Vehicle During Drag Race

A Michigan mother was fatally struck by an out-of-control vehicle while heroically saving her two-year-old daughter’s life during a drag race Sunday.

Kadie Price, 33, was in the crowd with her family when a 1980 Jeep CJ lost control and left the race track before crashing into another vehicle, police said.

The other vehicle, which was stationary at the time of impact, struck Price, just seconds after she pushed her daughter to safety.

Chaos ensued in the sand dunes of Silver Lake State Park in western Oceana County, about 270 miles northwest of Detroit, MLive.com reported.

Although several people rushed to offer immediate care to Price, including Silver Lake State Park rangers, they were ultimately unable to save her.

Price was pronounced dead shortly after being struck just before noon.

Her daughter was able to avoid “serious injury or worse,” police said, thanks to her mother’s quick thinking.

“Please keep the Price family in your prayers,” the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The driver of the Jeep was identified as a 64-year-old man from Michigan. His name has not been released at this time as the investigation continues.

Two off-road drivers who took part in Sunday’s race have since detailed the horrific incident.

“I’ve been coming here for a long time,” Bryce Straubel told WOOD. “It was probably one of the most brutal accidents I have ever seen.”

“It breaks me,” Straubel added. “People come here to have a good time and this mother just lost her life. She pushed her daughter aside to save her – that’s just hard to hear. It really is.”

Silver Lake State Park is a 3,000-acre park along the shores of Lake Michigan. It contained approximately 2,000 acres of San Dunes.
