The Vikings receiver, Justin Jefferson, wants to represent the United States team at the Olympic Games.
Shortly after the 32 NFL owners voted unanimously to allow active players of the NFL to participate in football of the Olympic flag in 2028, Jefferson joined Commissioner Roger GOODELL at a press conference to say that he would like to be Olympian.
“Just to think about the chances of playing the Olympic Games and getting a gold medal is a dream, coming back to being a child and looking at athletics, looking at basketball, winning the gold medal,” said Jefferson. “It is something that, as a child, I have always wanted to be a part, but football was not global. So now that we are broadening the game and we are becoming more global, it’s pretty cool. It’s pretty cool, just to see all the different countries involved.”
Jefferson has recognized that there are significant differences between 11 football against 11 and football of Olympic flag 5 against 5, and that he does not know if he will be chosen in three years. But he is one of the many players who manifest themselves in the 10 chosen for Team USA in 2028.
