A few weeks after the city of Chicago and Jussie Smollett announced a regulation to resolve their one -year legal battle at the 2019 request of the actor that he was the victim of a hatred crime, Smollett took on social networks to disclose the terms of the agreement.
Smollett said on Friday that he would give a donation of $ 50,000 to the Bighter Futures Center for the Arts Charity building as part of an agreement to obtain the dismissal of the case. Smollett said that the donation of $ 10,000 additional to the Chicago Torture Justice Center.
NBC News contacted the construction of the future center for the arts and the city of Chicago to confirm the donations and details of Smollett on the regulations, but did not immediately have a response to a request for comments.
The Chicago Torture Justice Center confirmed the donation of Smollett in an Instagram publication on Friday.
The actor said that his decision to settle the civil prosecution was “not the most difficult” to do and had allowed him to support communities “too often overlooked by people in power”.
Smollett, which is black and gay, first pointed out a crime of hatred committed against him in January 2019, alleging that two men confronted him with racial and homophobic insults, wrapped a rope around his neck and poured them with bleach.
However, police and city officials later said that he had orchestrated the hoax hatred crime against itself. The city’s trial accused Smollett of having submitted a false police report on January 29, 2019, saying that he knew his attackers and had planned the attack, and he asked for $ 130,000 in expenses spent for the police investigation.
Smollett has contradicted, denying that he orchestrated the attack.
The Olabingo and Abimbola Osundairo brothers, who worked in the “Empire” set, said they had been paid by Smollett to organize hatred crime and testified against the actor during his trial.
Smollett was found guilty of five disorderly accusation chiefs for crime in December 2021 and sentenced to 150 days in prison and 30 months of probation in March 2022, but the Illinois Supreme Court canceled the conviction in November 2024 for proxy issues.
The High Court of the State ruled that Smollett should never have been charged in the first place after having concluded a non-preparation agreement in the office of the County County Prosecutor.
Smollett has maintained its innocence over the years. He ended his post thanking his supporters.
