Jussie Smollett reaches regulations with the city of Chicago 6 years after an alleged tack

The city of Chicago and the former actor “Empire” Jussie Smollett reached a colony, six years after the city continued the television star.

The city filed a civil complaint against the actor in April 2019, three months after Smollett said he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack in the Streetterville district of Chicago.

However, police and city officials later said that he had orchestrated the hoax hatred crime against itself. The trial of the city accused Sollett of having submitted a false police report on January 29, 2019, said that he knew his attackers, had planned the attack and had requested $ 130,000 in expenses spent for the police investigation.

Smollett had filed a denying speed plans that he orchestrated the attack and denied having made a false police report.

On Monday, the city and Smollett told court that they had settled, “but need more time to finalize the documentation.”

The details of the regulations were not disclosed.

A status hearing set for April 30 was reset for May 29, according to the court of the court.

The Chicago Ministry of Law and Smollett lawyer did not respond to requests for comments.

In January 2019, the actor had reported to the police that he had been the victim of a hate crime and was attacked because he was black and gay. Two men – The Ola and Abimbola Osundairo brothers – were arrested in the investigation. Police investigated the case and later declared that Smollett had recruited the brothers to help him stage the attack.

In February 2019, Smollett was arrested and the following month, he was charged by a large jury for having allegedly submitted a false police report. The accusations were then abandoned by the state prosecutor of Cook County, Kimberly Foxx.

A special prosecutor relaunched the case and, in February 2020, Smollett was again charged for six disorderly accusations of conduct, which led to a trial.

In December 2021, he was found guilty of five of the six charges. Smollett was sentenced in 2022 to 150 days in prison and 30 months of probation.

In this trial, Osundairo’s brothers said Smollet had hired them to organize an attack as a ploy for public attention and said they had been paid for a $ 3,500 check. Smollett argued that the check had been written for personal training services and denied the claims that he organized the attack.

This conviction was then canceled in November 2024 by the Supreme Court of Illinois on questions of prosecution. The Supreme Court of the State concluded that Smollett should not have been charged after having concluded a non-preparation agreement at the Office of the County State of Cook.
