Wilder gave us insight into some of the top managers

Who would you call “tactical genius”?

“I would say everyone has to be competent and above all competent to manage at the highest level,” Wilder explained, “but I think you go to another level and you talk about Pep Guardiola.

“For me, Brendan Rodgers was an incredibly good tactician, the way he played different formations, played different ways. Overall, when you have the best players in the world, there has to be structure, but sometimes great moments from world-class players decide games.

“You are only as good as your players, but I think the balance between manager of Manchester City and manager of Leicester City is there for me.”

The manager you would have liked to play for?

“I think Jurgen Klopp has an incredible connection with the fans, he builds that, it’s not just luck or it works like that, he builds that relationship with the fans of Liverpool, an incredible club,” cooed Wilder. .

The boss who gave you the best hospitality after the game?

“Paul Cook, definitely. He is world class at that. I was in his office until 11-12 p.m. and he was in my office until 11-12 p.m.

“There are very good guys, they see things as they are. Some don’t come for a beer, but there are some really good guys. Sometimes footballers don’t get the press they deserve.

What fellow manager would go for a pint in your local Sheffield?

“I have to say my all-time favorite was Sir Alex Ferguson. I think he’s just a different class, I’ll pay for it don’t worry about it, I’ll find the money,” he joked.

“Sir Alex was my all time favourite, so was Jose Mourinho and his attitude towards the game and just being a serial winner, another one I shake my head at when criticized.

“Which he’s done in all the clubs he’s been to. Some don’t work out for various reasons but the man doesn’t lose his magic in my opinion. Going into clubs and doing what he does, is- What’s left for 10, 15 years? No, but that’s how he manages.

“He wants to come in and he’s winning things and that’s no coincidence.”
