Jurgen Klopp fought back tears and had to stop his interview with Kenny Dalglish and Graeme Souness after title victory

Jurgen Klopp left an interview with three Liverpool legends in tears after guiding the club to the Premier League title in 2020.

Klopp’s Reds cruised to the Championship in style during the Covid-disrupted season, finishing 18 points clear of runners-up Manchester City.

It was Liverpool’s 19th title in the top flight, the first in 30 years and the first in the Premier League era, which was confirmed after City’s 2–1 defeat by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

After sealing the title, Klopp joined Liverpool greats Kenny Dalglish, Phil Thompson and Graeme Souness via video call from a hotel where he and his players gathered to watch the match.

Klopp dressed for the occasion in a Liverpool shirt and fought back tears as the interview drew to a close.

“I don’t have any real words. I never thought I would feel this way,” Klopp told Sky Sports.

He continued, “I’m completely overwhelmed. It’s just… I’m sorry gentlemen,” before quickly leaving the live show.

During the interview, Klopp paid tribute to some of the club’s legendary figures who paved the way to their latest title.

The German reserved special thanks for Dalglish and former captain Steven Gerrard who failed to lead the Reds to title glory during his 17-year career at the club.

Klopp said: “It’s for Kenny, you had to wait. Stevie, you too. I know how much it means to everyone.”

The 2020 title win was tinged with slight disappointment as fans were unable to enter stadiums across the country due to a national lockdown.

Unfortunately for the German boss, his side’s title fight faded in the final weeks of this campaign – which will be his last in the Anfield dugout.

Liverpool had been part of a three-way race with City and Arsenal, one that set up one of the most exciting late contests in recent Premier League history.

But the Reds’ form dipped after Klopp’s exit was announced, with an FA Cup exit to Manchester United, a Europa League exit to Atalanta and a run of nine wins in 16 league matches showing. their quadruple hopes end with a groan.

Klopp and his team can at least look back fondly on the Carabao Cup final celebrations in January, having already ensured that the beloved manager would not leave Merseyside empty-handed in his final season.

And his players will want to give him the manager the start he deserves with a victory against Wolves on Sunday on the final day of the season, having already secured third place and a return to the Champions League.
