Former NRL playmaker Junior Amone has failed to overturn his conviction for a rooftop hammer attack that saw his contract at St George Illawarra ripped up.

Amone, 22, appeared in Sydney’s Downing Center District Court on Friday, where a judge dismissed his appeal against his conviction relating to a heated incident outside his family’s Warrawong home in November 2022.

Junior Amone and his father, Talatau Amone, were both convicted in October last year of a series of charges, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Magistrate Gabriel Fleming found the two men guilty of all charges after the court heard tradesmen Jai King and Dean West were working on a house opposite the Amone house when they became embroiled in a dispute with a group of men about a Nissan Navara parked on natural terrain. band.

The magistrate noted that Junior Amone then jumped on the roof of the vehicle, while his father mistreated and threatened the traders.

The magistrate found evidence linking Junior Amone to the scene – including fingerprints on the windscreen – and she was convinced beyond reasonable doubt that he was the man who threw Mr King off the roof.

He was found guilty of damage to property, intimidation and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and sentenced to a two-year intensive corrections order.

On Friday, Judge William Fitzsimmons dismissed his appeal against his conviction and upheld his convictions.

Mr Amone’s contract with the Dragons was terminated following his conviction in October last year after he was struck off.
