While on Wednesday, Thomas Coville and the crew of Sodebo Ultim 3 had crossed the Cape of Good Hope 1 day 4 hours and 17′ ahead of the record times, held by Francis Joyon and the Idec crew, four days, the seven men are some 262 miles behind. But they knew it, Joyon had made an almost perfect Indian Ocean with a depression which had taken him on an almost straight course.

Coville and his team had to carry out several gybes in addition to repairing the radar: “This radar allows us to see at night and during the day too. And when you’re sailing in the southern seas, it’s scary not to have it. Léonard (Legrand) and Benjamin (Schwartz) found the solution and we repaired it. We are now more reassured,” said Thomas Coville.
