A judge on Saturday overturned warrants for Imran Khan’s arrest in the Toshkhana case as the former Pakistani prime minister marked his appearance in a court in Islamabad.

The hearing was adjourned to March 30 as workers from Khan’s party, the PTI, and police clashed at the premises of the court complex, Dawn reported.

District and Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal ordered Khanan to appear in his personal capacity at the next hearing.

Meanwhile, a major drama unfolded at the PTI Chairman’s home, Zaman Park, Lahore, with police entering the residence and arresting over 60 people amidst tear gas fire.

Earlier in the day, Khan left his residence in Zaman Park for the court in Islamabad. A vehicle in his convoy overturned as it headed for the capital.

What is the Toshakhana case?

In an investigation, Pakistan’s anti-corruption body, the National Accountability Bureau, found that Khan, during his tenure as prime minister, kept some state gifts presented to him by various foreign dignitaries, A ANI says the report.

On November 19, 2022, NAB became aware of the alleged non-disclosure of the true value of gifts received by the former Prime Minister, his wife and other cabinet members.

Sources with knowledge of the matter said there was a discrepancy between the actual value of the gifts received by the former prime minister and the sale, ANI reported.
