The Chinese Grand Master Ju Wenjun won the female world championship Fide 2025 on Wednesday by beating his compatriot Tan Zhongyi. Ju Wenjun, who has held the title of female world champion since 2018, beat Tan Zhongyi 6.5-2.5 during the 2025 world chess championship match.
Ju Wenjun, 34, from Shanghai, 34, defended her crown with three games to lose when she obtained a draw in match 9. Ju Wenjun won a prize of $ 340,000 (Rs 2.91 crore approximately) as the winner, while Tan Zhongyi will receive $ 227,315 (RS 1.95 approximately).
Ju Wenjun creates a new record with another world title victory
With his last victory, Ju Wenjun has only become the fourth woman in the history of chess to win the title of the world championship fid up five times.
Ju Wenjun won the title for the first time in 2018 by beating Tan Zhongyi, then defended it successfully in a ko of 64 players later that year, followed match victories against GMS Aleksandra Gornachkina in 2020 and Lei Tingjie in 2023. His reign, now in his seventh year, will continue until the championship match in 2026–27.
