Josh Hart’s clutch Knicks 3-pointer elicits great call from Mike Breen

Josh Hart’s three-pointer late in the fourth quarter in the Knicks’ Game 1 victory Saturday night sent Madison Square Garden into a frenzy.

It also brought out a fantastic call from play-by-play announcer Mike Breen.

The Knicks led the 76ers by four points with just over a minute to play and had the ball with the shot clock expiring when Miles McBride threw a pass to Hart.

Hart faked a pump and McBride then set a screen to take Joel Embiid off the ball.

And then Hart worked some magic, taking an off-balance deep 3-pointer, firing off a perfect shot from beyond the arc to give the Knicks a seven-point lead en route to a Game 1 win.

Breen, who worked the play for ESPN, didn’t use his signature “bang,” although he still made a terrific play call.

“The shot clock is at 4 and Hart is faking it,” Breen said as the game unfolded. “Hart tries another 3-pointer, uh-oh that’s good!” He knocks down another one! »

Mike Breen had a definitive call on Hart’s bucket. P.A.

Breen let the game breathe and let the raucous Garden crowd be heard on the ESPN broadcast

“Seven points up, less than a minute to play,” Breen said. “Hart didn’t sit the entire second half.”

Hart led the way for the Knicks with 22 points, and Breen’s call echoed the importance of shooting and performance in New York’s Game 1 victory.
