Jordan Hicks of San Francisco Giants is not worried about the rotation point

San Francisco – Jordan Hicks had lost six consecutive decisions as a launcher leaving last season when the Giants decided to move the right -hander from the Rotation to the Lights Enclosure.

With victories that are again elusive for Hicks in 2025, manager Bob Melvin may soon be tempted to make a similar decision.

Hicks, making his ninth start of the season on Wednesday, was not bad but has always been accused of five points deserved on seven strokes in what became an 8-7 defeat against the Arizona Diamondbacks before an announced crowd of 30,078 at Oracle Park.

Hicks, looking for his first victory since March 31, lasted only two rounds and more before he was replaced by his right compatriot Hayden Birdsong with two runners in third.

Birdsong quickly authorized a three-point circuit to the third basic player Eugenio Suárez, who led a quick ball of 96 mi / h on the left field for a 6-2 advance in Arizona.

Last Friday, Hicks left a performance of six strokes against the Minnesota twins in which he granted three points in six rounds. But he was not as crisp against Arizona as the Giants, despite a late rally, lost for the fifth time in six games.

“I thought his belongings were again quite good,” said Melvin about Hicks. “Had hard ground bullets finding holes. At one point, one might think that they would be struck against someone.

“But (Birdsong did not have) his best things either. He abandoned some first races and put us in a hole.”

Hicks said he “had the bullets on the ground I wanted. They find holes, and I don’t really know what else to do about it. It’s just baseball. “

Back in this year’s rotation after training in the spring, Hicks was brilliant at his first start to the season on March 31, because he withdrew six years and did not allow a deserved race in six rounds in 7-2 giants in victory on his hometown of Houston Astros in Diahing Park.

But after Wednesday, Hicks is 1-5 with an MPM of 6.75 in 47.1 rounds for the season. It was the fifth highest era among the 108 starters of the MLB that started at least nine games.

Asked after Wednesday’s match on the status of Hicks in the rotation, Melvin said: “It’s just after the match. It is really difficult to talk about these things right now.”

Hicks started 20 games last season for the Giants, with 4-7 with an MPM of 4.07 in 98.2 rounds. Its last nine departures were the problem, however, because it went 0-6 from May 31 to July 23, with 22 goals on balls against 42 stick withdrawals.

The giants left Thursday and the place of Hicks in the rotation does not recover before May 20, when San Francisco welcomes the Royals of Kansas City. If Hicks does not start, the giants could use the song of birds there or turn to the left -hander Kyle Harrison, who started 24 games with the team last season.

For the moment, Hicks which is in the second year of a 444 million dollars contract over four years which he signed with the Giants in January 2024, a contract he accepted in part because he wanted an opportunity to start, will not worry about a return to the pen.

“I’m just going to go there every time and put my best foot forward,” said Hicks. “That’s really all I can do, it’s (turning) the page, close the book on bad outings, then grow from good. Take the positive points of bad games.

“I have the impression that there was a high percentage of bullets on the ground today, and it is ideal for me as a ball launcher on the ground. It just didn’t find the guys. I just lived with and move on. ”

The giants dragged 8-2 after the summit of the fourth before they started to flourish in advance of Arizona.

Heliot Ramos finished with three products produced and Jung Hoo lee succeeded on the second consecutive day. The giants then loaded the basics in the ninth and marked once to cut the advantage of the diamondbacks to one, but Christian Koss went to the shallow central field to end it.

In the eighth, with Koss on board, Ramos has reached a single field at the third base line. After finishing second, Koss ran face to face in the Diamondbacks Geraldo Diamondback stop. Wounded and on the ground, Koss was labeled because he could not go back to the second goal.

But after the referees were conferred, the diamonds were called to the obstruction, Koss received the second goal and Ramos remained at the beginning. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo came out to argue and was quickly ejected by the referee of the first base Nic Lentz.

In a little comic help, Lovullo signaled to the ejecture of the four arbitrators who made the obstruction decision.

The agitation was for nothing, however, while Flores came out with two to end the threat.

Fitzgerald update: Tyler Fitzgerald began his rehabilitation mission with Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday evening, but it is not clear when the second-time injured player can return to the Giants.

Fitzgerald was placed on the 10 -day injured list, retroactive on May 1, with a fracture of the left coast, and the Giants match against Arizona on Wednesday scored the 13th match he missed. Melvin said the giants have different hours for Fitzgerald’s return, “according to the way he goes, which we have the impression he needs, how he responds every day. It would be good to recover it sooner.”
