The planned development of Omar Berrada

It is perhaps no surprise that new Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada, currently on gardening leave, is investing in a new hangar.

Berrada, who will cross the border with rival City this summer, has applied for planning permission to get rid of a five-bedroom Wendy House in his Cheshire neighborhood as part of a garage upgrade and replace it with a new one high-end hangar.

Joe Kinnear’s legendary laughs live on

Many entertaining stories have been shared since the sad passing of Joe Kinnear earlier this month.

One of them comes from the old Wimbledon meeting hall. The story goes that the day Kinnear took over, he told the players the new regime would start with a 10-mile run.

The group’s predictable reaction quickly changed when, after about 100 yards, he led them straight into a local pub. Once inside, Kinnear would not let anyone leave until all of the team’s problems were revealed and resolved. It was early in the evening when anyone returned home.

On another occasion, Kinnear, a former Tottenham player, was celebrating in the White Hart Lane boardroom after overseeing a Dons victory when Alan Sugar, then Spurs owner, asked what Wimbledon had that his group didn’t expensively constituted internationals did not have. Quick as a flash, Kinnear responded: “Me as manager.”

EFL’s Late Night Cereal

It appears the EFL was expecting a late end to the annual awards ceremony last week.

On their way out, guests were presented with cereal packets from sponsors Kellogg’s, which made it possible to see some of the great and good players from the match strolling down Park Lane in the early hours, holding boxes of Crunchy Nut.

What next for the FA Cup?

It will be interesting to see what happens to the FA Cup prize money next season after the backlash caused by the FA replays.

A growing number of EFL and National League clubs have spoken out against a move which officials say will not worsen their financial situation.

While the Premier League’s extra £33 million goes to the grassroots, there is some skepticism about how this will happen – particularly given the diminishing revenue from the competition’s new broadcast deal which was controversially overseen by the elite.

Richard Masters might be ready for a familiar journey north

Liverpool and Arsenal’s mistakes last weekend may have caused groans in the Premier League rounds.

The results handed Manchester City the initiative and raised the possibility that top-flight boss Richard Masters might have to visit the Etihad Stadium again as part of the trophy presentation, at a time when the competition is in a legal battle with the club over 115 charges for alleged financial violations.

Last season, City pulled off a masterstroke of deflection by inviting former goalkeeper and community stalwart Alex Williams onto the pitch to present the trophy.

BBC tribunal against Leicester City journalist concluded

The employment tribunal for a BBC employee dismissed for misconduct after being accused of promoting brands on social media concluded last week.

Ian Stringer, Leicester City reporter for BBC Leicester, claims double standards and compared his treatment with the way the channel treated Gary Lineker and Victoria Derbyshire, who his representative claimed had relationships with commercial entities.

The BBC said Lineker was a freelancer and not an employee and was therefore not subject to the same rules.

Stringer also accused the company of failing to protect a whistleblower, after accusing editor-in-chief Kamlesh Purohit of breaking Covid rules and then, he claimed, subsequently being “bullied” before eventually being fired. The verdict is expected next month.
