Liverpool and AC Milan have embarked on yet another European classic as the Reds came from behind to secure maximum points on Matchday 1 of the Champions League.
Goals from Jordan Henderson, his first in seven years, Mohamed Salah, Ante Rebic, Brahim Diaz and an own goal from Fikayo Tomori saw Anfield witness another European classic.
Steven Gerrard was still the captain the last time Henderson found the net in a Champions League game at Anfield and it was fitting that he scored a goal the Liverpool legend would be proud of.
He smashed the ball 20 yards into the lower left corner in front of AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan to seal a nice comeback for Liverpool.
The Reds got off to a perfect start from the start thanks to an own goal from Fikayo Tomori after deflecting the ball into his own net from a cross by Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The score line should have made the reading more comfortable and it would have been if Mohamed Salah had converted on the spot, which he had done 17 times.
Eventually Liverpool got tired and AC Milan settled in and against the play a quick brace from Rebic and Diaz saw the visitors take the lead at the break.
Liverpool and Salah didn’t let that affect them and the Egyptian redeemed himself by equalizing early in the second half.
The comeback was then over with 20 minutes to go as Henderson sealed a vital victory for Liverpool with a thunderous strike.
Although the final should have been a lot more comfortable, manager Jurgen Klopp will be delighted with the character his side have shown as Liverpool start their campaign with maximum points.
