Jon Stewart slams Republicans for demanding conditions on Los Angeles fire relief

On the Jan. 13 episode of “The Daily Show,” Jon Stewart addressed the devastating Los Angeles wildfires and Republican lawmakers who want “strings attached” to incoming relief funds.

Stewart opened the show on a positive note, celebrating the “incredible moments of human compassion and kindness” that have arisen from the Los Angeles fires despite the “tragedy and sadness” that have plagued Star City since January 7, when the Pacific Palisades fire. broke out for the first time.

“Neighbors taking care of neighbors, charitable contributions are pouring into Go Fund Me from all parts of the world,” Stewart said. “(But) above all, the tireless and heroic actions of the firefighters of the California region, some of whom prisoners fought with incredible courage and tenacity.”

Stewart noted that some first responders were “rescuers from out of the country.” The expert took the opportunity to attack conservatives who are calling for stricter border policies.

“(LA received) first responders from Mexico! Mexico!” Stewart exclaimed. “To hell with your open borders Biden!

After seeing the good, Stewart went on the attack, targeting several Republican lawmakers seeking to pair “I told you so” policies with the burning of relief funds. A video released shows a number of congressional Republicans saying things like: “I think there will be strings attached to the money that is ultimately approved” and: “(California) doesn’t deserve anything, to be honest with you, unless she deserves nothing. show us that they are going to make changes.

“It’s psychotic. There’s something wrong with you,” Stewart said. “And here’s the thing, I can do the Daily Show thing and criticize every right-wing congressman and senator who is calling for conditions on disaster aid, when they had the absolute opposite view while their state was at stake.”

Stewart then played a short clip of a red state senator demanding that the government do “whatever it can” to help with a local disaster. But Stewart cut off the clip by saying, “Shut up…Red states are still the tragic victims of circumstances beyond their control, and Democrats still vote to help them.” While the disasters of blue states are a function of their flawed morality and policies. And if we help blue state survivors, what message will that send? What lesson will they learn?
