John Roberts has a lot to answer

In 2010, chief judge Roberts made his choice: he chose the billionaires. He chose the oligarchy. He chose to explode 240 years of American democracy.

The case was supposed to be simple: could a right-wing group funded by the billionaires of fossil fuels show its Clinton anti-propaganda film in a month following an election? The Federal Electoral Commission said not because it had violated the ban on business elections.

But Roberts was not satisfied to simply allow the film.

With judge Anthony Kennedy, Roberts has achieved a judicial coup. He ordered both parties to use the case, but this time on the broader question of the electoral expenses of companies and billionaires, something that was not even part of the initial trial. It was judicial activism on steroids, the kind of capture of power that would make a third world dictator proud.

The result, as I put in The hidden history of the Supreme Court and the betrayal of America,, Was a 5-4 all-republican-Andem-Andenteee decision, Citizens United, which legalized political corruption and sparked an avalanche of liquidity and cash of companies which, in the years which followed, largely buried American democracy.

Judge John Paul Stevens was so furious that he read his 90 -page dissent aloud from the bench, forcing his five Republican colleagues bought from the Republicans to listen in delicate discomfort.

Trump’s sordid show against Musk is not only annoying; It is the death of American democracy. Two oligarchs dispute publicly who owns our government, while the Republicans of the Supreme Court of Roberts claim uncomfortable that it is “freedom of expression”.

We do not see a democratic electoral cycle. We look at the final consolidation of the American oligarchy.

Unless we overthrow the united citizens and take back our democracy from billionaire sociopaths, the musk-top cage match is only the opening act. Soon: President Bezos against President Zuckerberg (or their proxies) was presented by chief judge John Roberts and the pro-Oligarchy majority of the Supreme Court.

The choice that Branddeis warned us in 1919 was made: Roberts and Sam Alito chose the concentration of wealth. Clarence Thomas chose the oligarchy. Antonin Scalia and Anthony Kennedy chose to let the billionaires buy our democracy.
