John Lithgow door porbot and other moments

Lesley Manville, John Lithgow and Imelda Staunton were among the winners at the Olivier Awards 2025.

Here are five things we learned during the most prestigious night in the British theater.

Lithgow was one of the big winners of the night, winning the coveted trophy for best actor for his representation of Roald Dahl in giant.

The actor, who played in Conclave, the crown and the 3rd rock of the sun, tells us “he never thought” that he would win an olive tree.

Lithgow studied at the London dramatic school in the 1960s and saw Sir Laurence Olivier play when he was a student in the capital.

He has already won several awards, then where will Lithgow display his first Olivier?

“I am not a very vain person, I am probably not in vain. I mainly use rewards for door doors.

“I have exactly six doors, for example, on the second floor of my house in Los Angeles and I also won six Emmy. So I’m going to have to look for another door!”

Porter is the king of Broadway who currently plays as a master of ceremonies in the cabaret cheered by criticism in the West End.

He tells us that he loves the British public and says that even if they are “a little more reserved” than the American crowds, they really “relaxed”.

Porter, who welcomed the Olivier Awards with the star of the West End Beverly Knight, however has some tips for British cooks.

The actor says “although food is better than it was”, she still needs more “salt and pepper, before cooking it, not after”.

We proposed to do it for dinner at the BBC canteen, let’s see if he accepts.

Garai beat a steep competition – including herself – to bring the Olivier for the best support actress for her role in the years.

She was also nominated in the same category for Giant.

This is Olivier de Garai’s first victory and she already has an idea where the prized trophy will be displayed.

“My little boy asked that if I won, could he keep him in his room and I said to myself:” I suppose you can! “It will therefore be with all its figurines.

“I feel that I accept this in the name of my children, my husband. Everyone wanted me to do something that I felt so passionately.”

Titanic is one of those programs where to really believe.

It is a musical from Celine Dion Hits jukebox, where Celine herself diverts a museum tour on the Titanic in order to tell her version of what happened the night when the ship sank.

The show won two olive trees – the best support actor in a musical for Layton Williams for his representation of the infamous Iceberg, and the best entertainment or comedy.

Titanical is a tribute to Céline’s voice, as the Canadian diva still saw it?

The answer is not yet, but the creators Tye Blue, Marla Mindelle and Constantine Rousouli say that her decor, the support singer and even Celine’s sister watched her.

Rousouli says that he “would explode in a million pieces of dust” if Céline was in the audience.

But Mindelle, who created the role of Céline in Titanique, says that she “would vanish … then (the real) Céline Dion would work on stage and would take the game in a way and it would be exactly the same thing.

“The show would continue without a hitch.”

The performance of Meera Syal in a Tupperware of Ashes was welcomed with glowing criticism, so it is not surprising that she was nominated for the best actress during this year’s prizes.

Syal played a mother diagnosed with an early early Alzheimer’s disease.

The actress says she discovered that she had been nominated for the prestigious acting price after leaving a zumba course.

“I saw about 10 missed calls from my agent and a lot of my daughter and I thought, what’s going on?”

“So, in sweat and in my leggings, I went up and I had the news, and it was such a nice surprise for a Tuesday morning!”
