John Fetterman Skipped Committee Meetings for Media Hits and Vacations

Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, the Democratic candidate for Pennsylvania Senate, ignored his responsibility to attend state committee missions and instead conducted media interviews and took advantage of a vacation.

Meeting logs show Fetterman has skipped 11 or 13 meetings of the Pennsylvania Military Community Building Commission and Local Government Advisory Committee since 2019, the Free Washington Beacon reported. In 2020, Fetterman skipped several meetings and opted instead to conduct media interviews with the “Pod Save America” podcast, MSNBC and Sky News.

In June, he skipped a local government advisory board because a New Jersey vacation was more pressing, the Free tag reported. The previous year, in October, he skipped a session of the military commission and returned home the next day to attend to “family matters”. Additional meetings that Fetterman would have missed were not counted in his schedule.

Overall, Fetterman, who wants to become a U.S. senator, has missed a third of his Senate session as lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania during which he earns $180,000 a year.

The Lieutenant Governor did, however, attend some meetings. In addition to the military committee, Fetterman serves as chairman of the Pennsylvania Board of Pardons, which provides oversight of the Senate. “Fetterman attended every meeting of the Board of Pardons, where he cast many votes to free first-degree murderers,” the official said. Free tag reported.

Crime is a major theme in the Pennsylvania Senate race. In 2012, Jahmir Harris was sentenced to life in prison for first degree murder. But in 2021, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner’s “Conviction Integrity Unit” freed the convicted felon. Fetterman has been a supporter of Krasner’s policies.

Now Harris is wanted for murder again, according to Fox 29 News:

Fetterman called Krasner’s unit “crucial” and “truly groundbreaking”. He also has famous Krasner as a “champion of criminal justice reform”.

Fetterman is one of the most radical Senate candidates of the 2022 cycle. He called for banning the “possession” of guns, a step beyond simply banning the sale of guns. Fetterman thinks it’s “important that we as a society provide government-funded drug dens, and also decriminalize drugs “at all levels,” including methamphetamine and heroin. He supported ending cash bail. In 2018, Fetterman recommended to arrest criminals another day if they run away from the police.

A poll shows Republican Senate candidate Mehmet Oz pulled within the margin of error with Fetterman, despite overspending by $5 million, according to third-quarter fundraising totals.
