John Daly decided to miss the PGA championship next week as he continues to recover from surgery, the golf legend admitting: “The alarm clock is a victory for me”.
The 59 -year -old remains one of the most popular golf characters thanks to his sense of eccentric fashion, his big shot and his colorful life – on and outside the course.
But the double major champion will not do it at Quail Hollow, with Daly who rather opens to play in the Tradition of the regions – The first of the five majors of the PGA Tour champions, which concerns players aged 50 and over.
Daly is always making his way to her best after fear of health saw him hospitalized in January. He needed an emergency operation on his left hand before returning to the golf course in March.
It was the 16th surgery of a remarkable career for Daly, who also fought against bladder cancer. “I’m like Lazarus – I come back from the dead,” said the 59 -year -old.
“I did not think that I have been here for three decades, I have only died eleven times … 16 surgeries in four years, I lost the account roughly.”

Daly, 59, has a lifetime exemption from the PGA championship after winning the tournament in 1991 at the Croooked Stick Golf Club. He also won the 1995 open championship.
“I can go there and miss the cup and get $ 6,000,” Daly told the PGA championship, who paid $ 4,000 last year to players who missed the cup. “But I play Birmingham. I love regions. They are an excellent sponsor.
“But why program the regions the same week as the PGA championship, where I can see Brooks (Koepka) and all the guys?”
Daly entered the PGA championship last year in Valhalla, but withdrew due to a thumb injury before the second round after shooting 11 against 82 in the first round.
