Joe Rogan brands ex-UFC champion ‘best ever’ after watching him submit opponent nearly 100lbs heavier

Joe Rogan thinks Demetrious Johnson is unrivaled as an MMA fighter.

The diminutive former UFC champion is often overlooked when discussing the greatest fighter of all time, but commentator Rogan always makes sure he’s part of the debate.

“Mighty Mouse” enjoyed a legendary career in the UFC, winning the inaugural flyweight championship and defending the belt a record 11 times before being traded to ONE Championship in 2018.

Johnson recently added to his list of accolades at the Pan American Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship, winning gold in the Masters featherweight division and winning silver in an openweight tournament.

The 5-foot-3 MMA star overcame huge height and weight disadvantages when he faced Michael Sante Medina, who is 6-foot-3 and weighs about 250 pounds, in the open weight quarterfinals.

In a recent episode of his popular podcast, Rogan watched in amazement as the 155-pound former UFC fighter took on an opponent weighing nearly 100 pounds heavier than him.

“How crazy is this?” ‘Mighty Mouse’ took on a guy who weighed 250 pounds in a jiu-jitsu tournament and he booked him,” Rogan told comedian Joey Diaz, who was by his side.

“The guy was 100 pounds heavier than him. The guy was huge, the guy was so much bigger than him. He is also excellent in everything.

“Look at the size difference. Look at how big this guy is. ‘Mighty Mouse’ is so skilled. He manages to stay on top, which is really crazy. It’s crazy that he can’t get rid of him. It’s technique.

“It’s pretty crazy that he’s willing to do this. He’s still doing MMA, he’s still competing in high-level championship fights and he’s competing in a Gi tournament, which is crazy!”

Excited by what he had just seen, the iconic UFC commentator overlooked Jon Jones and Georges St-Pierre by calling Johnson the greatest fighter in MMA history.

Rogan added: “He’s probably the best of all time, in terms of pure martial arts technique.

“I think the best expression of martial arts technique is ‘Mighty Mouse’.”

The man himself, however, has previously stated that Jon Jones is probably ahead of him on the “GOAT list.” “I feel like every time he is inside the cage he can destroy his opponent any way he wants,” he said on his YouTube channel. “He also has knockout wins, putting people to sleep, decisions, everything on the list.”

Johnson is the current ONE Championship 135lb champion, but he hasn’t fought since beating Adriano Moraes in a trilogy bout last May.

The 37-year-old was previously linked to a clash with Bradley Martyn, but the 260-pound bodybuilder may be thinking twice about the fight after seeing Johnson’s recent exploits.

Whatever’s next for Johnson, you can be sure Rogan will be watching him.
