The director general of Portland Trail Blazers, Joe Cronin, accepted a multi -year contract extension with the organization, the organization reported Monday morning. The number of years in the agreement has not yet been disclosed.
The extension comes when the Blazers have posted a record of 35-44 so far this season, an improvement of 14 victories compared to last year when the franchise finished 21-61. As Charania noted in her report, the Blazers have taken their biggest improvement measures in the second half of the season, in 22-16 since January 19.
Cronin was appointed Interim GM des Blazers in December 2021 following the dismissal of Neil Olshey. Then, in May 2022, Cronin officially took charge of the role of GM by signing a four -year contract with the franchise. During the first three seasons of this agreement, the team posted a file of 89-154. The two previous seasons involved a hard pivot of the alignment while the Blazers went from the Damian Lillard era.
In an official press release, the Trail Blazers praised Cronin’s work to improve the franchise foundation through the trades and the NBA recovery.
In the past three seasons, Cronin has designed list movements that have improved the general level of talents and the competitiveness of the team in the future. Thanks to the professions, Cronin directed the additions of Jerami Grant in July 2022, Deandre Ayton and Toumani Camara in September 2023 and Deni Avdija in July 2024.
Under the direction of Cronin, the Trail Blazers also added talents thanks to the Shaedon Shared selection project in 2022, Scoot Henderson in 2023 and Donovon Clungan in 2024. Both (2023) and Henderson (2023, 2024), with Camara (2024), were appointed to NBA Rising Stars teams during several weekends of any stare.
The press release included a comment from the president of Trail Blazers Jody Allen:
“Joe demonstrated leadership and vision during his time as general manager, and I am delighted to see him continue to build the bases of a long-term winning team. We are all delighted with the team before the team and excited for the future of Basketball of Trail Blazers.”
Cronin has also commented on the news of its extension, while discussing its vision of the future:
“I am honored that Jody and (vice-president of Trail Blazers Bert Kolde) have made their confidence continue in me and thanks them for believing on this occasion to continue our continuation of a winning team in Portland. My vision is to have a competitive list with the potential for successful success, while creating a culture that helps all our players, our coaches and our employees.
Cronin has been working with the organization for over 19 years, starting as an intern in 2006, then working on the scale under four different GMs.
