At the start of the offseason, Joe Burrow clearly indicated that he wanted to see Bengals rewarding Ja’mar Chase, Tee Higgins, Mike Gesicki and Trey Hendrickson with new contracts.
Cincinnati checked the box on three of the four players from the List of Boute-Arrière wishes. But Hendrickson remains unhappy with the agreement which should pay him $ 15.8 million in base salary in 2025, saying last week that he would not play on his current contract.
At his Tuesday press conference, Burrow again supported Hendrickson.
“Yeah, We will see what’s going on with that“Said Burrow.” You all know what I feel for Trey. He’s a great player. I love Trey as a guy. He goes out and plays well every Sunday. It is very productive. He is a guy who deserves to be paid and to be paid for what he wants and what the market is. So, as I said, we will see what’s going on with that. But I love Trey and I hope he is with us.
“I think he does what he thinks is best for his career and I support him in there,” added Burrow later. “Trey is an intelligent guy. Like everyone, I’m sure there are things he would like to have. But he is very well thought out in his process and what he is trying to do. And so, if he thinks it is the way to follow, then it is the way to follow.”
Hendrickson caused a sensation when he presented himself during the training of phase II of Bengals last week in street clothes and spoke to the media for about 25 minutes. Burrow said he was in contact with the defender “here and there” in recent months.
“At the start of the off -season a little lately, not quite,” said Burrow. “He was here last week, obviously, as you know. It was an exciting day. And it was great to see it. He entered, brought good energy, was happy to see everyone. As I said, I like Trey, I love to see Trey. He is one of the most unique people I have ever lived or met, and I love him. unique that I am always excited.
