JJ Watt presents NFL DPOY award to brother TJ Watt in heartwarming NFL Honors moment

Forget like father, like son. In the Watt house, it’s like brother, like brother when it comes to being a defensive player on the field.

This was reinforced Thursday during the 2022 NFL honors ahead of Super Bowl 56. JJ Watt, three-time Associated Press NFL Defensive Player of the Year, presented younger brother TJ with the award for the 2021 season. This was TJ’s first DPOY.

TJ Watt tied Michael Strahan’s NFL single-season sack record with 22.5 while leading the league in tackles for loss (21) and quarterback hits (39). This is the second straight year that TJ Watt has led the league in all three categories.

Last season, he finished second in DPOY voting last season against Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Watt made it clear at the time that he thought he should have won the award.

This year, there was no debate about whether Watt deserved it, but that didn’t stop Twitter from having fun while celebrating the magnitude of when JJ presented the award to TJ.

TJ Watt became the eighth Steeler to be voted DPOY, the most of any franchise. He is the first Pittsburgh player to win it since safety Troy Polamalu in 2011.
