“It was below zero in Washington today,” Kimmel noted. “That’s the only reason the Bible didn’t catch fire when they swore in Trump.”
Instead of taking place outside the U.S. Capitol, the event was moved inside the Rotunda, which Kimmel said is a key advantage for the new president.
“Harder for Melania to escape,” he cracked, referring to the first lady.
Kimmel said Melania Trump’s look for the ceremony was “goth Al Capone” as she wore a navy and white outfit that included a wide, flat brimmed hat.
The late night host also spotted an awkward moment for the first couple.
“Donald and Melania are very, very in love,” he said. “You can see here that they had a very sweet moment: they shared a… almost a kiss.”
The president and first lady attempted to kiss, but the brim of the hat prevented it. Kimmel joked that maybe there was another reason they weren’t really kissing.
“I guess she didn’t want to ruin her makeup,” he said.
