Jimmy Kimmel fights back tears as he returns to TV amid wildfires

An emotional Jimmy Kimmel returned to television Monday night after canceling several shows last week due to the destructive fires raging in the Los Angeles area.

Barely holding back tears, Kimmel spoke about family, friends and colleagues who had to evacuate, some of whom lost their homes.

“I think I speak for all of us when I say this has been a sickening, shocking, horrible experience,” Kimmel said.

His voice began to crack as he continued.

“But it has also been, in many ways, a beautiful experience because once again we see our fellow men and women coming together to support each other,” he said. “People who lost their own homes were volunteering in parking lots to help those who had lost theirs. »

Kimmel wanted no part in the attacks on the city by President-elect Donald Trump and others on the right, who used the tragedy to try to score political points.

“I don’t want to get into all the vile, irresponsible and stupid things that our so-called future president and his gang of bastards have chosen to say in our darkest and most terrifying hour,” he said. “The fact that they chose to attack our firefighters who apparently aren’t white enough to risk their lives for us is disgusting, but it’s not surprising.”

Instead, it focused on highlighting the townspeople who help others.
